I have always loved being around plant life and watching them grow, flower and even produce fruit and seeds. I used to travel a lot before the pandemic and had little time for my plants, but they seemed to thrive nevertheless. I do have great eastern light at home, and the soil in my community garden plot has been enriched by homemade compost over the years. In my plot, I grow mostly leafy vegetables and herbs that NYC squirrels don't like!
I grew up in Connecticut, and caring for plants was a big traditions in my family. Every holiday, my family would gift one another a new plant, and I learned a lot about how to take care of them. My apartment in NYC is filled mostly with plants that prefer low light. I also have a few plants that like the light though, and they somehow manage to thrive in my low-light apartment! I love watching the plants flourish and think nurturing plants can be a very rewarding hobby. I learn a lot from the beauty and resilience of plants!
